Meharry Medical College (MMC) is committed to ensuring a safe working environment in all laboratories. Our Laboratory Safety resources provide faculty with guidance on chemical handling, hazard management, and compliance with OSHA regulations, including 29 CFR 1910.1450. These resources are designed to support safe lab practices, reduce risk, and provide tools for ongoing training and oversight.
eBinder / SDS Database
The MMC eBinder contains up-to-date Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all chemicals used on campus. Access the SDS database to review hazard classifications, handling instructions, and emergency procedures for every chemical in your lab.
Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP)
The CHP is a laboratory-specific safety manual designed to minimize exposures, injuries, and incidents. Each Principal Investigator should use the MMC template to create a customized plan outlining PPE requirements, standard operating procedures, chemical risk assessments, and emergency protocols for their lab.
Laboratory Safety Training
Faculty and staff are required to complete laboratory safety training, which covers OSHA regulations, chemical hazards, and best practices for safe laboratory work. This training ensures everyone in the lab understands proper procedures and emergency response protocols.
Lab Safety Plan Template
