Biosafety

The Biosafety Program is designed to reduce or eliminate exposure to potentially hazardous biological agents, protecting both individuals and the broader environment. A breach in biosafety practices can result in the transmission of infection between patients, healthcare workers, and others in the clinical or research setting.

Faculty are expected to model and enforce safe practices by following standard (universal) precautions and ensuring adherence to established laboratory controls. These include facility design and access restrictions, personnel training, use of containment equipment, and safe handling and disposal of infectious materials.

Bloodborne Pathogens Policy

Provides guidance for safely handling bloodborne pathogens to minimize exposure risks in clinical and research settings. Review the policy to ensure compliance and protect yourself and your team.

Infection Control Guidelines

Outlines best practices for preventing the spread of infectious agents in labs and patient care areas. Access these guidelines to strengthen safety in your daily work.

Biosafety Containment Levels

Explains the levels of laboratory containment required for different types of biological agents. Refer to these standards to match your work with the appropriate safety controls.

Biohazard Spill Response

Details the procedures to safely respond to spills of infectious materials or other biohazards. Familiarize yourself with these steps to act quickly and safely in an emergency.

Biological Waste Disposal

Provides instructions for the safe segregation, handling, and disposal of biological waste. Consult this resource to ensure your lab or workspace meets regulatory and institutional standards.

Emergency Procedures

Outlines protocols for responding to a variety of campus emergencies affecting labs, classrooms, and clinical areas. Review these procedures to be prepared and coordinate effectively during incidents.

Use and Disposal of Sharps

Guidance on handling, storing, and disposing of needles, scalpels, and other sharps safely. Access this resource to prevent injuries and ensure compliance with safety standards.
