Center for Health Policy

Established in February 2009 through a dedicated grant, the Center for Health Policy at Meharry Medical College serves as a catalyst for advancing health equity through education, research, and reform at the national, state, and local levels. Anchored in Meharry’s historic mission to improve the health and healthcare of minority and underserved communities, the Center provides visionary leadership in health policy scholarship and practice.

Center for Health Policy

The Center Accomplishes its Mission Through Four Aims

  1. Recruiting and matriculating diverse health and social scientists into the field of Health Policy.
  2. Developing a strong, collaborative environment that supports health policy education and scholarly development among faculty, fellows, scholars, and leadership that spans across Meharry Medical College and strategic partners.
  3. Creating a national reputation and image for the Center for Health Policy at Meharry Medical College, as a leading source for health policy, analysis, and research.
  4. Maintaining strong relationships with local and national community partners by collaborating on mutually beneficial projects that advance health equity.

Certificate in Health Policy

The Center offers a Certificate in Health Policy and engages students in a robust pipeline of opportunities—including policy seminars, applied research, professional development workshops, and networking events—all designed to cultivate the next generation of health policy leaders. Its mission is to increase the representation of diverse voices in health policy by preparing scholars in the social, behavioral, and health sciences to shape and influence policies that promote equity and justice across the healthcare system.
