Dr. Lawrence Burns, DPM, a board-certified podiatrist and Associate Professor at Meharry Medical College’s Department of Family and Community Medicine graduated from the Climate and Health Equity Fellowship in Washington, D.C. on December 14, 2024.

This one-year fellowship, sponsored by the National Medical Association (NMA) and George Mason University’s Medical Society Consortium on Climate and Health, empowers doctors of color—particularly those from communities disproportionately affected by climate impacts—to become leaders in climate and health equity education, advocacy, and policy.

Dr. Burns joined eight other doctors from across the U.S. in the 2024 fellowship, where he focused his capstone research on how climate change and pollution increase the risk of amputations. As the first Meharry faculty member to complete this prestigious program since it began in 2021, Dr. Burns is paving the way for others to explore the critical intersection of climate and health equity.

Dr. Burns is accepting patients at the Meharry Family Medicine at Skyline located at 3443 Dickerson Pike, STE 530, Nashville, TN 37207. To schedule an appointment, call (615) 860-7511.
