Microbiology, Immunology, and Physiology Department
Welcome Message from the Department Chair
Welcome to the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Physiology at the Schol of Medicine, Meharry Medical College!
We are a passionate and inclusive community of scientists, educators, and future leaders focused on unlocking the mysteries of infectious and immunological diseases, particularly those disproportionately affecting African American and underserved populations.
Our research spans microbial pathogenesis, host immunity, and cardiovascular health, with the ultimate goal of developing new therapies and vaccines to reduce health disparities. Under the new leadership of Dr. Chandravanu ‘CV’ Dash, a renowned retrovirologist, the department is undergoing a phase of transforming growth. Specifically, the faculty in the department are using cutting-edge tools and innovative approaches, to make groundbreaking discoveries in HIV, protozoan infections, innate immunity, and cardiovascular disease.
We are also proud to be home to long-standing NIH-funded training programs that support the next generation of scientists. Whether your interest lies in microbiology, immunology, or physiology, you’ll find a dynamic and supportive environment here to grow, explore, and make meaningful impact. We’re excited to welcome you into our community of discovery and excellence.
