Chemical safety

The EHS Department is dedicated to minimizing chemical hazards and ensuring a safe working environment for all Meharrians. Our comprehensive chemical safety program is built upon strict adherence to state and federal regulations. This includes compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200), which requires all employees to have immediate access to information concerning chemical hazards through container labeling and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).

SDS database

Meharry utilizes an online database to assist laboratory and department managers with their chemical inventory and SDS management. Any user can request to create a location and add their chemical inventory to the database. Utilizing this tool will help ensure proper management of chemical inventories, and it automatically updates with the latest SDS for each chemical.
