Dr. Levi Watkins, Jr. Institute Accelerated Pathway Program
Meharry Medical College and Tennessee State University have partnered to create the Dr. Levi Watkins Jr. Institute/TSU/Meharry Accelerated Pathway Program—an innovative initiative that prepares academically talented students for careers in medicine and dentistry. Named in honor of Dr. Levi Watkins Jr., a pioneering cardiac surgeon and civil rights advocate, the program reflects his legacy of service and mentorship.
About the Program
Upon graduation with a B.S. degree in biology from Tennessee State University, students will matriculate to Meharry Medical College to earn M.D. or D.D.S. degrees. The program offers robust academic preparation, mentoring, and professional development. Students also benefit from hands-on experiences, community engagement and a curriculum that emphasizes the social and scientific factors that impact underserved populations.
