Citizenship requirements
Applicants for all residency programs or fellow programs at Meharry Medical College must be a United States citizen, a lawful permanent resident, a refugee, an asylee, or must possess the appropriate documentation to allow the resident to legally train at Meharry Medical College. Meharry Medical College currently does not sponsor Visas.
Proof of Selective Service Registration
Meharry Medical College residents have clinical rotations at state and federal clinic sites. In accordance with U.S. Federal policies, all male U.S. citizens and non-citizens living in the U.S. must register for Selective Service to be eligible to work a government job. Proof of registration will be collected by all male applicants who accept an interview with Meharry Medical College.
Medical Applicants
Meharry Medical College only accepts applications through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Applicants must have a medical degree from an accredited medical school within three years from the start of residency (July 1)
Applicants will need to submit the following documents
- USMLE Step 1 and 2 transcript or COMLEX Level 1 and 2 transcripts
- Medical School Transcript(s)
- Personal Statement
- Curriculum Vitae
- Medical School Performance Evaluation (MSPE)
- 3-4 Letters of Recommendation
- ECFMG Status Report *If applicable
- Professional Headshot
International Medical Applicants
International Medical School applicants must provide a valid Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certificate and a passing Occupational English Test (OET).
Dental Applicants
The School of Dentistry requires the residency applicant’s graduate dentistry education to be obtained in the United States or Canada — with the exception of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency requiring all dentistry training to be obtained in the United States.
Meharry Medical College only accepts applications through the ADEA Postdoctoral Application Support Service (ADEA PASS)
If selected for an interview, applicants must be registered for the Postdoctoral Dental Matching Program and rank the institution.

General Practice Dentistry and Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Applicants
Applicants for the General Practice Dentistry (GPR) and Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Residency programs must submit a supplemental application and pay a $65 processing fee, in addition to the ADEA PASS application.
