Research Processes

The research processes orientation meetings are from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on the second Thursday of every month. These meetings are held for the benefit of investigators, their in-house collaborators and the administrative and research staff, who help investigators in their submission of grant applications, and manage the grants once they are funded. In this meeting, the presenters will give talks on:

  • pre- and post-award activities
  • including grant/contracts submissions
  • financial management
  • regulatory compliance

Mr. Gamaliel Ballard, director of grants management, provides an overview of the grant application process, including sub-award procedures, progress report submissions, and protocols for requesting no-cost extensions. He also explains the required approvals from departmental or divisional Chairs, school deans, and the Provost before submitting applications to the Office of Grants Management.

Ms. Kimberly Thomas, director of regulatory affairs, outlines the roles of the IRB, IACUC, and IBC in research compliance and protocol submission. Mr. Sanjoy Sircar, Director of finance, reviews post-award processes including Workday setup, budget management, and financial reporting. One-on-one support is available by appointment.
