The Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship offered through Meharry Medical College is a one-year, accredited fellowship. Sponsored by the Department of Family and Community Medicine, the fellowship is designed to provide comprehensive experience that will enable fellows to apply primary care medical training to the assessment, treatment, and management of sports injuries in a compassionate, ethical and economical manner. Fellows have ample opportunity to work with athletes from the point of injury through diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation processes. Fellows also have opportunities to educate athletes, coaches, and the community concerning injury prevention and to determine when and how to interact with coaches, patients, and others in medical decision-making. In addition, this fellowship offers the opportunity to treat NCAA Division One and NAIA Athletes, and they serve as team physician for the Nashville Roller Girls, The St. Jude Country Music Marathon, and other events.
