OB/GYNs Address Black Women’s Health at Annual Conference


Nashville, TN –
On Friday, July 26th, Meharry Medical College hosted the 5th Annual Black Women Empowerment Weekend, an event organized by the Equity Alliance, a non-profit dedicated to advocating for equitable opportunities and systems that enhance the quality of life for Black people. 

Dr. Angelica Garrett Wood and Dr. Jamie Ware, OB/GYN providers from Meharry Medical Group, were featured speakers at the event. Their participation highlighted the commitment of Meharry Medical Group’s Women’s Center to addressing critical health issues affecting women, especially women of color.  

The panel discussion, moderated by Antricia Gordon, focused on crucial women’s health topics, including perimenopause, fibroids, pregnancy, and the impact of state laws on women’s health. Attendees also engaged directly with the experts, raising important questions about their health and wellbeing. 

Dr. Wood is a board-certified Obstetrician and Gynecologist at Meharry Medical Group. She also serves as an Associate Professor and the Student Clerkship Director for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Meharry Medical College. Her dedication to women’s health and medical education underscores her role as a leader in her field. 

Dr. Ware is a board-certified Obstetrician-Gynecologist at Meharry Medical Group and an Associate Professor in the Meharry School of Medicine. She offers a comprehensive range of women’s health services, including annual exams, breast exams, family planning, minimally invasive surgery, and addiction treatment for women. Dr. Ware’s multifaceted approach to patient care demonstrates her commitment to improving the lives of her patients.
