MMG Brings Health Services to Juneteenth Celebration

Meharry Medical Group resident providing health screenings at Black on Buchanan event in North Nashville.

Meharry Medical Group joined forces with Meharry Medical College’s medical residents to support the 6th Annual Black on Buchanan event, a lively Juneteenth celebration held in the heart of North Nashville.

Hosted by The Equity Alliance on Saturday, June 14, the free block party drew hundreds of attendees to Buchanan Street for a day of community, culture, and connection. More than 25 local vendors lined the street, offering everything from handmade goods to delicious food and important community resources.

As part of its mission to bring healthcare into the community, Meharry Medical Group offered free blood pressure screenings, led by residents Dr. Aisha Jimenez and Dr. Varsha Das. More than 50 attendees took advantage of the screenings. The doctors also distributed tips on heat safety – a timely and potentially life-saving message as Nashville heads into the peak of summer. Additionally, information about programs at Lloyd C. Elam Mental Health Center were provided including, the Adult Substance Abuse & Behavioral Health Treatment Programs, Adolescent Day Treatment Program, Rainbow Program for pregnant and postpartum women.

Meharry’s presence at Black on Buchanan reflects its deep commitment to health equity, community engagement, and empowering neighbors with tools to take charge of their wellness.

Whether through education, outreach, or care, Meharry Medical Group continues to stand with the communities it serves – on Buchanan Street and beyond.
