Meharry SACS Launches MS in AI and Entrepreneurship

SACS Studendy at SXSW

Meharry School of Applied Computational Sciences  (SACS) is proud to announce the launch of its Master of Science in AI and Entrepreneurship. By merging cutting-edge AI competencies with the Lean Startup Methodology, this specialized graduate program is designed to bridge the gap between technical AI development and the commercialization skills required to launch and scale high-growth ventures.

“The foundations of business are being redefined by AI,” said Sajid Hussain, Ph.D., chair and professor of computer science and data science.” From optimizing patient acquisition to streamlining hospital operations, AI is the primary driver of modern health care efficiency. This program prepares founders to build the business cases for AI adoption while ensuring these technologies are designed for maximum market reach and ethical reliability.”

A Five-Pillar Curriculum for the Modern Founder

The 22-month program is built on five integrated pillars designed to take a student from a conceptual idea to a market-ready venture:

  • AI Foundations: Mastering machine learning, NLP and deep learning.
  • Agent AI Tools: Utilizing frameworks for agentic workflows.
  • Entrepreneurship: Exploring business models and venture pitching.
  • Product Development: Mastering MVP design and agile prototyping.
  • Innovation Ethics: Navigating the legal and regulatory landscape of AI.

The program features live, online classes held in the evening. This founder-friendly format provides the high-touch student and faculty interaction of an in-person classroom with the flexibility required by working professionals.

The Startup Studio: Launching the Next Generation of AI Ventures

The hallmark of the program is the AI Venture Startup Studio, a two-semester capstone. Unlike traditional academic projects, the Studio requires students to build and launch a working AI venture, spanning problem selection, customer discovery and a final venture pitch.

By the end of the five-semester journey, graduates will be equipped to:

  • Build intelligent systems using modern AI and agentic tools.
  • Translate complex problems into profitable, scalable startup ideas.
  • Design for accessibility to ensure technology serves the broadest possible user base.
  • Navigate the legal and regulatory complexities of global AI innovation.
