Meharry Medical College’s Oral Health Day 2025: A Resounding Success in Service and Care

Meharry Medical College’s Oral Health Day 2025 was nothing short of spectacular! During the day, Meharrians felt the spirit of service in the air.

Students from Meharry’s schools of dentistry, medicine and graduate studies, along with volunteers from Tennessee State University and South College, rolled up their sleeves, and collaborated to ensure the day was a success.

Students spearheaded the entire event and performed duties from welcoming guests to medical triage, tooth cleanings, fillings, and extractions providing more than 700 procedures for Nashvillians in need of dental care.

“To see our students at work on Oral Health Day not only warms our hearts but makes us extremely proud to be Meharrians,” said Dr. Julie Gray, associate professor of department of restorative dentistry.  “They worked together in the spirit of excellence to provide much needed dental care to Nashvillians of all ages.  Our students gave of themselves from five in the morning to help those who needed dental care the most. It was truly a labor of love.”

During this year’s Oral Health Day student doctors provided 413 cleanings, 149 fillings and 210 extractions.  Patients also received preventative dental care information as well.  Oral Health Day could not have been a success without alumni, administrators, faculty, staff and support from partners Hope Smiles, Meharry Chapter of ASDA, Henry Schein Cares, WellPoint, and DentaQuest.

Oral Health Day is annual event held twice a year at Meharry.  The next event is scheduled for the fall.
