Cost of Attendance
The cost of attendance outlines tuition and all other expenses for an academic year at Meharry.
What is Cost of Attendance?
The Cost of Attendance (COA) is the total amount it will cost a student to attend school for an academic year. The COA is broken down into two types of costs: direct costs and indirect costs.
- Direct costs are those expenses that must be paid directly to Meharry, such as tuition and fees.
- Indirect costs are incidentals, such as living expenses which includes housing, food, personal expenses, transportation, miscellaneous expenses, etc.
The indirect costs are included in the cost of attendance to ensure students have the funds necessary to cover other aspects of their lives. It is important to note that these allowances are calculated using averages. Your expenses may be higher or lower depending on your budget or spending habits. It is important for you to budget and plan accordingly. COA budgets cannot be increased if your monthly expenses exceed the average. COA budgets are based on the costs for the student. Family, or dependent costs are not included.
Fund Availability and Refunds
According to your program, financial aid funds are sent to Meharry during the first week of classes. Per federal regulations, credit balances (e.g., refunds) must be available to the student within fourteen (14) calendar days of the disbursement date to the school.
Treasury Management processes refunds to students via direct deposit or check. For all refund inquiries contact Treasury Management at 615.327.6220 or via e-mail at treasurymgmt@mmc.edu.
Cost of Attendance by Program
Each program’s COA budget is an estimate and subject to change. Please note that financial aid awards cannot exceed the total COA for the academic year. When determining the COA, our office is required to account for all available resources—this includes, but is not limited to, scholarships, grants, stipends from service-obligated programs, tuition waivers, and other forms of financial assistance. If you have additional educational expenses or budget concerns that may change the amount you have been offered, you could be considered on a case-by-case basis for a possible cost of attendance budget increase.
If you need assistance, please refer to the instructions for submitting a financial aid request in the Student Financial Aid Requests Guide.
