The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery serves two purposes—to serve as a patient-care clinic and as a training clinic for undergraduate dental students and graduate specialty residents. We are expanding our footprints to meet the needs of others by providing training and service to our students and our community, and to eliminate health care disparities. 

Students train in all areas in oral and maxillofacial surgery and general practice dentistry, including: 

• Dento-alveolar surgery 

• Dental implant training and placement 

• Treatment of odontogenic infections 

• Management and treatment of facial trauma 

• Management of special-needs patients 

• Orthognathic and temporomandibular surgery 

• Pain and anxiety control 

• Management of pathological processes 

• Pre-prosthetic surgery 

• Advanced restorative dentistry 

Our approach produces future dental-health professionals who are well-prepared to provide quality routine independent oral and maxillofacial surgical care, or advanced general dentistry; challenge themselves to keep learning and innovating; pass national, state, and regional board examinations; and ultimately, excel in the private practice of general dentistry and oral maxillofacial surgery.
