Meharry Medical College fourth-year student Oliver C. Alexander was recently selected to present at the 2025 American College of Surgeons Quality & Safety Conference, held in San Diego, California. Representing Meharry as the sole student attendee, Oliver showcased his project titled, “SYNC: A Proof-of-Concept Handoff Model for Trauma Surgery.”
Drawing on a unique background as a former project manager in Singapore, Oliver brought his experiences to a critical challenge in surgical care – improving communication during trauma surgery handoffs. The project offered a new, process-driven solution designed to enhance patient safety and workflow efficiency.
“It was an incredible opportunity to present this work on a national stage and to highlight Meharry in front of surgical leaders from across the country,” Oliver shared. Oliver grew up in Washington, D.C. and Dubai. He graduated high school in Dubai before moving back to the U.S. for college.
