About Our Process

The Office of General Counsel (OGC) oversees all legal and regulatory matters that impact Meharry Medical College. With a strong emphasis on reducing risk, it provides advice and representation to the College, its affiliated entities, and its trustees, officers, employees and students while acting on the College’s behalf.

College policy requires the OGC to review and approve all legal and regulatory issues before any action is taken on the College’s behalf, including, but not limited to, contracts, real estate transactions, litigation, visa applications, release of College documents or records, and responses to subpoenas or governmental inquiries or investigations. The OGC is responsible for all policies. For more information regarding specific policies, please contact their office.

Each policy within our system is written by the responsible office and submitted for review to the corresponding policy review committee or members. The policy is then approved by the dean of the appropriate school. All system-wide policies are approved by Executive Administration.

Violations of Policies

Violations of any policy should be reported to your supervisor, Human Resources, a department chair, and/or the office responsible for the policy. Where these resources are inadequate, you may choose to make an anonymous report through the Compliance Hotline: (888) 695-1534.
