Your Role in Campus Safety: A Shared Commitment to Security at Meharry Medical College

At Meharry Medical College (MMC), maintaining a safe and secure campus environment is a shared responsibility. Together, we can create a community where everyone feels protected and supported.

Your awareness, vigilance, and willingness to act are critical in fostering safety for yourself and others.

If You See Something, Say Something

Your voice matters in keeping our campus safe. If you notice anything unusual, suspicious, or concerning, don’t hesitate—report it. Together, we can create a secure and supportive environment for everyone.

How Can You Help?

  • Report Crimes or Suspicious Activities Promptly
If you witness a crime or notice something unusual, report it immediately to the Department of Campus Safety and Security (DCSS).
  • Mandatory Reporting of Theft or Misuse of Property
All students and employees must promptly report any theft, misuse, or abuse of MMC property to the DCSS.

Where to Report

The DCSS Office is located on the lower level of Alumina Hall behind the Vanderbilt Alliance build at 2010 Meharry Blvd, Nashville, Tn, 37208 in Lot R. A dedicated Sergeant, Officers and Dispatcher is on-duty 24/7 to address your concerns and can be reached at 615.327.6254.

Other ways to report:

  • Use Code Blue Phones located throughout the campus.
  • Speak to DCSS Officers on patrol (on foot or in vehicles).
  • Contact one of the Campus Security Authorities (CSAs), including:
    • Deans, Associate Deans, or Assistant Deans
    • Vice President of College Relations
    • Director of Student Services
    • Manager of Student Housing Facilities
    • Directors of Campus Safety and Security

It is MMC’s policy to investigate every report thoroughly. When necessary, additional expertise from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) or the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations (TBI) may be enlisted to ensure comprehensive resolution.

Off Campus Incidents

  • If a crime occurs off-campus, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) will typically lead the investigation. MMC investigators are available to provide support upon request.
  • In an emergency, dial 911 from off-campus phones.
  • For non-emergencies, contact MNPD at 615.862.8600.

Support for Victims of Crime

If you experience a crime on any MMC property or leased building, report the incident to the DCSS at 615.327.6254.

For those who wish to remain confidential while reporting:

  • Clergy and Counseling Support
Contact the campus Chaplain and Director of Counseling Services, Rev. Robert Hall, at 615.327.6975.
  • Campus Security Authorities (CSAs)
Deans, Directors, or other designated CSAs are also available to receive confidential reports.

Even if you choose not to pursue formal action through the college or criminal justice system, filing a confidential report can help MMC track crime trends, allocate resources, and enhance campus safety under the Clery Act.
