Meharry Medical College has appointed Dr. Menaka Thounaojam as an associate professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences in the School of Graduate Studies, effective Jan. 6, 2025. Dr. Thounaojam brings expertise in cellular biology, anatomy and ophthalmology, along with a strong record of federally funded research and student mentorship. She is an NIH R01-funded investigator whose work has advanced understanding of bile acid receptor signaling in ocular diseases. Meharry Medical College has appointed Dr. Ashley L. Mutchler as an assistant professor in the School of Graduate Studies, Department of Biomedical Sciences, effective Jan. 6, 2025. Dr. Mutchler’s research focuses on immune mechanisms in salt-sensitive hypertension and the role of inflammasomes in cardiovascular disease. Her work has been published in multiple high-impact journals, and she has presented her research at international conferences.
