Applied Education Department
The Department of Applied Education, a newly formed department in the School of Graduate Studies (SOGS) at Meharry Medical College (MMC), prepares visionary leaders to transform healthcare education and workforce development through the newly proposed innovative 30-credit hour Master of Education in Healthcare Leadership and 60-credit hour Doctorate of Education in Healthcare Leadership programs.

The curriculum integrates advanced educational theory with practical leadership skills, empowering graduates to excel in roles such as healthcare policy analysts, and directors of workforce development.
Our curriculum
These new MMC programs stand at the intersection of healthcare and education, offering a unique focus on organizational leadership, curriculum development, and educational research. Students will engage in rigorous coursework that combines educational theory, program evaluation, and strategic management while developing solutions to real-world challenges in healthcare education.
Through an applied research approach, students will undertake capstone projects and dissertations that directly impact organizations, implementing innovative programs and solutions that advance healthcare education and professional development. Graduates emerge prepared to lead educational initiatives, shape healthcare policy, and drive organizational change in academic medical centers, healthcare systems, and educational institutions.
