Schools

Founded in 1876 as the Medical Department of Central Tennessee College, Meharry Medical Collge was the first medical school in the South for African Americans. It was chartered separately in 1915.

Today, the College has five schools for medicine, dentistry, graduate studies, applied computational sciences and global health.

School of Applied Computational Sciences

Driven by our mission to innovate, connect and serve, we offer online graduate programs in artificial intelligence, bioinformatics, biomedical data science, computer science, cybersecurity assurance and data science.

Every program integrates AI and machine learning through hands-on projects, preparing students for a rapidly evolving field. Our students benefit from a hands-on, practical learning environment led by faculty who use emerging data science techniques to tackle real-world challenges.

School of Dentistry

Our graduates have received international recognition for their achievements, performance, and service, blazing trails with innovative ideas and compassionate hearts. Many of our alumni focus specifically on providing care for the underserved. Others serve in the military, private practice, and as faculty members of dental schools throughout the country. All carry with them Meharry’s mission and legacy, acknowledging the blessings of the past and taking the progress of the present to make an expansive impact in the future.

As the first and only School of Global Health in the United States, we take an equity-focused, human-centric approach to training passionate global health leaders. Our students navigate political systems and societal structures through a comprehensive curriculum spanning mental health, health economics, disaster management, global health diplomacy, and emerging technologies.

School of Medicine

The School of Medicine is the oldest and largest of the five schools at Meharry Medical College. The Office of Admissions admits 115 medical students and trains over 100 residents annually. Its residents train in Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Occupational Medicine, Preventive Medicine and Psychiatry.
