The DHA program consists of 56 credit hours (2.5 year) and will be implemented in Fall 2026. The curriculum is structured to prepare students for leadership roles in health administration, with a focus on critical areas such as leadership, population health, political determinants of health, mental health, and health communications. Each course will be 8 weeks, with students taking a total of 3 courses per semester (2 in the first 8 weeks and 1 in the second 8 weeks).
The faculty for the DHA program is composed of highly qualified individuals with extensive expertise in health administration, policy, public health, and related fields. They hold advanced degrees and possess significant experience in their respective areas of specialization. Key qualifications include:
Advanced Academic Credentials: Faculty members hold terminal degrees (PhD, MD, EdD) in disciplines relevant to health care and administration.
Research Expertise: Faculty are involved in translational and clinical research, contributing to advancements in health services, health equity, and policy.
Professional Experience: Faculty have held leadership positions in health organizations, policy boards, and academic institutions, bringing a wealth of practical insights to the program.
Teaching Experience: All faculty members have experience in higher education, particularly in graduate-level instruction, ensuring a robust educational environment.

Letters of Recommendation
Two letters of recommendation are required, at least one of which must be from an academic mentor (major professor, thesis advisor, etc.) who can speak to the applicant’s potential to undertake graduate studies.
Official transcripts
Applicants must submit official transcripts of coursework attempted and completed at all previous colleges and universities whether or not a degree was earned at the institution. Final Decision
Once all documents have been appropriately submitted to SGH, they will be reviewed by the Faculty Admissions Committee.
Applicants being considered for the PhD must undergo an interview, SGH will contact applicants directly to coordinate a designated date and time.
All applicants will receive a final decision response by e-mail.

International Applicants
At this time, the Meharry School of Global Health is not able to consider international applicants for our upcoming cohorts. We recognize the importance of global representation and will provide updates should this policy change in the future.
GPA Requirement
Applicants must hold a master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Applicants with a GPA below 3.0 may be considered on a case-by-case basis if they demonstrate substantial professional experience and leadership potential.

Recommended Prior Coursework and Experience
Applicants must hold a masters degree in a health or business-related field from an accredited graduate institution.
Bachelor’s degrees will be considered where at least 10 years of employment experience working in a healthcare setting. Exemptions may be offered to pipeline MS or MPH graduates.
