The School of Applied Computational Sciences welcomed three new faculty members in January 2025.
“Our new faculty bring an exciting combination of teaching, research and industry experience to our school,” says Dean Fortune S. Mhlanga, School of Applied Computational Sciences. “They will certainly enrich our expanding academic programs and research activities.”
Nazirah Mohd Khairi, Ph.D., is assistant professor, biomedical data science. Her research focuses on medical image processing and analysis, with a particular emphasis on brain functional MRI and diffusion MRI. Her contributions are reflected in several peer-reviewed publications on biomedical imaging, analysis, and modeling.
Abdullah Al Mamun, Ph.D., assistant professor, biomedical data science, is driven by a deep passion for integrating innovative computational techniques with experimental data to accelerate discoveries in precision medicine, renewable energy and environmental sustainability. He has more than a decade of research experience across multiple scientific domains. He has also mentored students at Vanderbilt and University of Louisville, where he completed his doctorate.
Asmah Muallem, Ph.D., assistant professor, computer science and data science, is passionate about applying AI/ML technologies to find solutions that address the evolving landscape of cybersecurity, especially the complex challenges of cyber threats in healthcare. Her experience includes research and teaching assistant roles at Tennessee State University along with several years of experience in the tech sector, most recently as a machine learning engineer.
