BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Amera Khan is an Associate Professor of Global Health at Meharry Medical College, School of Global Health, bringing over two decades of global and domestic public health experience to her work. She previously served as a Technical Expert at the United Nations Stop TB Partnership, where she led efforts to implement, assess, and scale up innovative programs to detect and treat people with tuberculosis (TB), the leading infectious disease killer worldwide.
Before her UN role, Dr. Khan was Team Lead at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of TB Elimination, focusing on public health workforce capacity development and behavioral research related to TB and TB/HIV. In this capacity, she designed and delivered training programs, conducted research on strategies to scale up TB preventive treatment, with a particular focus on migrant communities. She also contributed to health communications, infection prevention and control initiatives, and outbreak response efforts for infectious diseases.
Dr. Khan’s research interests center on implementation science, health systems strengthening, integrated service delivery, and the application of new technologies to expand access to and improve the quality of public health services. Her career reflects a consistent commitment to translating research into practical, scalable solutions for key populations.
